Michele Wise – Wide Open and Wonderful

Have you ever wanted to hook something other than a rug or a wall-hanging?
Michele will guide you in the creation of your dream object, be it a pillow, purse, bag, doll, footstool, slippers, whatever! She will help you in both the hooking of the necessary shapes, the assembly of the piece, sewing in the lining, application of zippers, buttons and embellishments and upholstery, if needed. If you just want to tackle a wide cut piece, she’d be happy to help you with that.

Michele Wise brings a 30 year career as a high school teacher into her rug hooking classes. She has been hooking and teaching since 2000. Humour and fun are key to her approach. Sharing all that she knows is important when teaching. She provides demonstrations and examples and loves to problem solve. You will be able to develop your pieces with encouragement. Michele teaches all aspects of hooking from fine shading, wide cut, 3-d, upholstery, embellishments, hooked books, purses, portraits, sculptures, abstract and modern pieces. She has taught in the US and internationally, promoting rug hooking through her many activities. She is currently director of Western McGown Teachers Workshop, runs two retreats and co-director of Puget Sound Rug School. She has written articles for Rug Hooking magazine, ATHA magazine, Wool Street Journal, McGown Guild, The Beat, Aussie Rugmakers Guild and TIGHR newsletters. Many of her pieces have been published in books, including Celebrations. Two of her pieces are on permanent display at the Bainbridge Art Museum. She was recently a judge for Celebrations.
